Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. In 1992, she was appointed the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell traveled with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions for summits, and to discuss issues including and the Iran Contra controversy.
